American Legion World Series starts 4-year NC run

SHELBY, NC (AP) - American Legion baseball teams from around the country are in North Carolina, where a high school stadium will be home for the organization's World Series for the next four years.

Eight teams from New Jersey to Hawaii will start competition in the American Legion World Series on Friday.

Shelby High School's Keeter Stadium is scheduled to host the annual summer event for at least the next four years.

The event was last in Shelby in 2008.

The stadium was upgraded this year to include new dugouts, an improved warning track, a better scoreboard and lighting, and 1,000 new seats.

Players have a lot of ground to cover in the field that reaches 330 feet down the lines and a center field of 400 feet.
