Kay Hagan will be Obama's surprise 2012 VP choice, analyst says

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A New Jersey political analyst claims that President Obama will dump Joe Biden weeks before the Democratic convention in Charlotte next year.

The President's choice for a running mate will be first term U.S. Senator Kay Hagan, who is a Shelby native, according to Alan Steinberg, who wrote all this on a blog in New Jersey

Hagan, formerly a politician in Greensboro, was swept into office on the President's coat-tails when he won North Carolina in 2008, the first time the state voted Democrat for president since 1980.

Steinberg says North Carolina will be a pivotal state in 2012 and Hagan, niece of former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Lawton Chiles, would help Obama here.

CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A teen was killed in single-vehicle wreck in Cleveland County early Sunday morning.

The wreck happened around 1 a.m. at 3603 Rube Spangler Road located about one mile south of Lawndale.

Thomas Woodrow Vinson, Jr. was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer and died at the scene.

The SUV left the road, hit a ditch, and went airborne before slamming into a tree. The driver's side took the full impact of the collision.

A state trooper said the owner of the SUV, 22-year-old Adam Hammond, of Shelby, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
